You are going to need a IP network security camera. ValueTechSupply.com – http://www.valuetechsupply.com – sells them with built in web servers. I think this will do the trick. I would call them though because they are the experts. I bought from them a few weeks ago and they knew everything that I asked and it dealt with a complex security system for my small business.

If you DVR doesn’t have a remote monitoring option, but allows to see records using a PC you use MS Windows “Remote Desktop” software to remotely control your DVR and check video records.

Check the documentation on your DVR. It should have instructions on setting up remote access for it.
You will need an internet connection at you home.
You will need a network cable to connect the dvr to your router.
You will need a static IP address or you could use DHCP.
You will need to set up port forwarding on your router so that you can access the dvr from outside the home network.
Again the DVR should have info on how to set this up if it has those capabilities.
