Is night vision required? If yes, how far does the camera need to see at night?
Are “Pan/Tilt/Zoom” controls required?
What will be monitoring or storing the video that camera captures?
Is computer access needed? Is network access needed?
Does the video image need to be in color? Is black-and-white OK?

The price range for outdoor rated surveillance cameras is from to ,000 depending on the features, resolution and connection requirements – and that does not include the surveillance digital video recorder (or other video storage method), or cabling/installation or other computer netwrok connectivity/security items to consider.

You do need to know the basic weather proof capabilities of the camera as well.
Then as stated you need to look at how it will be connected.
Other than that you look at resolution. 540 TV Lines of resolution is considered a high resolution camera. However if your using IP you could get a Megapixel camera.
Other factors will be is the Camera Day/Night and does it include the infrared led’s if that is needed.

Let me recommend http://spyrocks.com. They’re a company that manufactures and distributes covert cameras that are hidden in realistic looking fake rocks or tree stumps that ARE weatherproof.
I bought one about a month ago, and it’s a great bargain. Plus the cameras have night-vision and are wireless, so it’s a fantastic setup. Even if you don’t intend to purchase one, it’s a good option to look into.
