The problem with "Metal Halide" bulbs are that they take 15 to 20 minutes for them to get as bright as they will get. Another disadvantage with those bulbs are that when the lights go on, if the power goes out it would take another 20 mins for the light to even start to go on again.

There are two kinds of halogen bulbs, "flood light" and "spot light". A flood light will spread out the light evenly over an area (better for a bigger yard, driveway, etc.), and a spot light will direct most of its light in a certain area (better for a smaller yard, driveway, etc.).

If you want the light to stay on constantly, I would recommend a Metal Halide (when on it has that purple tint to it), but if you want it to go on and off, over and over when something trips the sensor, I would go with a Halogen.

"Metal halide" Can not be used on a motion detector!
save your money...

The brightest would be Halogen or LED

Halogen has an instant on effect.
Most LED's do now too. I would go with something like a 150 watt or even 300 watt.
As for Super bright LED you might be better off looking at halogen due to prices. Halogen starts around $10.00 and up
LED starts around $60 for the real bright ones.
