Question by MahatmaJohn: What kind of motion detector will alert me to deer etc in my garden?
I would like to make an alarm system for my garden to detect deer and maybe smaller animals, that the dog would then shoo away. The garden is 100 feet from my house and measures 75×75 feet. What is the best type of motion detector for this application? Wired or wireless, battery or line voltage, manufacturer, the more specifics the happier I’ll be!

House alarm systems have motion detectors that you can install. I don’t know how weatherproof they are. But, if you can get one that is weatherproof, you can get a wireless one that would transmit a signal to the main unit in the house. Alarm systems also have a chime mode, where every time the detector is activated (by motion, or opening a door or window), a chime or beep goes off.

As far as the kind to get, there are so many on the market. Just look on ebay at the various kinds that are available and study up on the different brands to find one that suits your needs.

Question by Pen2Paper: Want to set up a home security video system? Need help on what to buy.?
Need to know what I can use to archive the videos and what is the best brand of cameras I should look for.
Wow, that undress sister????? Not even! I needed to know basic info, I can install myself but I was seeking opinions for my home to monitor the indoors of my home and also my dogs activity when I am not around. Probably to a DVR or HDD depending.

That is a pretty tough Q to answer, I have CCTV security in my home, and I use a wide variety of different cameras, it all depends on the app. indoor/outdoor, day or night, IR eliminators, pan/tilt, hidden, audio equipped, auto iris, size and type of lens, and you can record video in many different ways, DVR, video tape, hard disk, or to files on your PC, you can set up motion detection, and switching for multiple cams, If you don’t know anything at all about it, seek some help from a certified installer, if your a minor and trying to catch your sister undressing, keep in mind, it is illegal to use cameras even in your own home for that purpose, check the local laws that apply to surveillance equipment !
