Question by : Target security? Covert/hidden cameras?
My friends husband was accused of getting sexual favors at work (he does security at Target) and he told her there was no way that it happened becasue there are cameras all over the place. He showed her the still-shot of what the camera in this particular office/equipment room shows, and there does appear to be a blind spot. He said that there are normal cameras (the large ones that are in the glass bubbles on the ceiling) and he also said that at some locations in the store (this office in particular) they have other small covert hidden cameras that only Corperate security can see..not the secureity officers in the store. Has anyone worked Target security, and do they really have these small hidden cameras around the store that only corperate can see? Thanks!
To clarify- There is 1 camera in the office that is known to all employees (that is how he got the still shot) but my girlfriend showed me the pic and there is a blind spot in the back-that is where he said the other hidden camera was (he only told his wife, not other employees) He said that people used to get in trouble for doing things in the office so thats why they had to install the second camera that only security knows about.

no thats illegal its an invasion of privacy im pretty sure… hidden cameras arent allowed in public buildings

Question by puttndutchman: Have a problem with a home security system. Any suggestions?
I have an older security system. Exxis is the brand with telephone connectors and wire not coax. I get audio but no picture from any of the cameras, three set up. I’m guessing it’s a problem with the monitor and would like to know if it is worth repairing or just replacing. Any suggestions on how to find the problem myself? Three cameras with motion detectors run through recorder. Have contacted Exxis and the monitor is obsolete and they, of course, suggest replacing with one of their current models.

Just replace the system, that is old technology and will be costly to repair.

Question by MahatmaJohn: What kind of motion detector will alert me to deer etc in my garden?
I would like to make an alarm system for my garden to detect deer and maybe smaller animals, that the dog would then shoo away. The garden is 100 feet from my house and measures 75×75 feet. What is the best type of motion detector for this application? Wired or wireless, battery or line voltage, manufacturer, the more specifics the happier I’ll be!

House alarm systems have motion detectors that you can install. I don’t know how weatherproof they are. But, if you can get one that is weatherproof, you can get a wireless one that would transmit a signal to the main unit in the house. Alarm systems also have a chime mode, where every time the detector is activated (by motion, or opening a door or window), a chime or beep goes off.

As far as the kind to get, there are so many on the market. Just look on ebay at the various kinds that are available and study up on the different brands to find one that suits your needs.

Now when you ask for cameras with motion detector do you want them to be able to record only when there is motion, or do want them to have an actual motion detector inside of the,.

If you want them to be both a CCTV camera and a working motion detector I suggest Ascendents ASC-380PIR37.

If all you want is a camera that records when there is motion then all you need is CCTV cameras and a DVR. CCTV cameras put out 30FPS per second and send those images to a DVR it is then the dVR job to manage the video (decide when ans how to store the images, and allow you to remote connect to the cameras.)

the problem with viewing your cameras over the internet is most DVR file size is too large. File size is crucial to streaming because most DVR’s on the market record at real time performance (30FPS per channel) so on a 4CH is trying to send 120, 8CH 240, and a 16CH 480 images per second which requires way to much bandwidth even for the most extreme internet connections.

also uses the latest H.264 codec becasue it offers better quality,. While its file size sizes is 30% smaller than MPEG-4, 60% smaller than MPEG-2, and exponentially smaller than MJPEG.

Not all DVR are created equal In fact, there are many options that offer varying performance much like the automobile industry. In the world of DVR’s you can find the equivalent of a ,000 Kia and a 0,000 Ferrari and everything in between. Both have 4 wheels and windshield but that where the similarities end, it’s under the hood that counts. Just like any other consumer electronic in the end you get what you pay for.

If you are buying a DVR and streaming is a high priority I suggest get them to do a demo and connect to the DVR to make sure it is able to stream fast enough for your needs. Most DVR say they have Remote Viewing but it is often to slow and laggy to be of use. Some good DVR brands that I recommend are Bosch, Pelco, Honeywell and Ascendent.

Again I recommend going with a PC based DVR but if you don’t want to spend the money I suggest Ascendent’s AVP-4120 DVR or Pelco’s DX-4000 as they will allow you to view all your cameras instantly from anywhere in the world using either IE. The AVP-4120 will also allow MAC platforms as well as PC to remotely view cameras and it uses the new H.264 codec but no standalone will offer the video streaming or performance a good PC based DVR will.
