Question by college student: Is there any way to set up a built in web cam as a security camera?
I don’t want it to look like the computer is on if possible.

You cant use a web cam for security.

They are low resolution
Large file size
Slow streaming
no watermarking Technology (images wont hold up in court)

Go with an economical DVR I suggest the AVP-4120 by Ascendent
